Ahh

Peace

...to this.

Quogue is beautiful and serene. No Hampton's Hype, no nightlife, no clutter. And practically no people. Not that I have anything against my species. I just become prickly and intolerant in mid-summer.
Unwellness sails the Mediterranean, Listo's off to Maine, ...Mondale to Mother England, Maestra had her Caribbean interlude. Less than two hours from 5th St. (if you know the right route) I have this beach.
(And broadband internet service back at the house.)

The Big Birthday

The Big Birthday
Originally uploaded by mactechwitch.

Baby Michael turned 1 on July 6. I spent the day alone at the vacation house with the adorable grandson. Mommy, daddy and grandpa all headed back to NYC for a rousing day of WORK.
Our day consisted of endless rounds of mashed foods punctuated by toddling near disasters. (why would you stand up in a rocking chair?) His nap was a grand total of one hour which I foolishly spent answering "helpdesk" emails from school and reading blogs. I should have been sleeping or luxury of luxury, showering.
The beach was empty due to the overcast weather but it was pleasant enough. We ticked off a good two hours there, sifting sand and throwing mac and cheese to the seagulls. In the house we played with giant legos and pushed screaming fire engines around in front of the TV's continuous coverage of the London explosions.
We we're both exhausted by 6:30 PM. He was sawing logs before 7:00. His daddy pulled into the driveway soon after with a rotisserie chicken and mommy and grandpa got off the jitney around 9:00.
It was a totally absorbing and very satisfying day but I'm looking forward to NOT doing the same thing tomorrow.
